Zoo of Acadiana

First, a short History lesson. The French came to the New World and landed in the Canadian Acadia Region. These same French were run out of Acadia in the 17th century and moved themselves to Louisiana. Once in Louisiana, the Acadians became known as Cajuns. Well, now that we are here, I have learned that our Region in Louisiana is known as Acadiana. There are 22 Parishes that are categorized this because of their similar culture. For us, this means that we get to live among the "real" Cajuns...

On our first Saturday in Louisiana, we took a road trip to Lafayette to the Zoo of Acadiana. In Lafayette, almost everything is bilingual. I don't mean Spanish, either. French is weird!!! I don't understand any of it and I sure don't know how to read it. Jarrod is so used to asking me how things are read and out here I'm not sure that I know how to read either. We had a great time at the Zoo. It was a small, non-state or federally funded zoo but it had lions, and tigers, and bears, and giraffes. I know that we will be going back over the years so I hope that it can stick around.

We also visited the Children's Museum in Lafayette. Addie loved playing with all the things there. She dressed up as George Washington, blew massive bubbles, and played pretend in the toddler section.
